Kabwum station glows with new Mini Hydro Power

On August 25, 2025, the Kabwum District marked a significant milestone with the successful connection of a mini hydro power system to the Kabwum Station Church and the District Director’s house. This achievement brings reliable electricity to the church and its leadership, enhancing their ability to serve the community.

The mini hydro power system, owned by Justin Andon, a local resident of mixed Bougainville and Morobe (Kabwum) heritage, was made possible through a collaborative effort. Pastor Hamilton Aguzi, the Kabwum District Director, recognized the need for a stable power supply to support church operations and the District Director’s residence. After discussing the church’s mission and operations with Mr. Andon, he graciously agreed to share the power generated by his mini hydro system with the church for a modest fee of K100 per month.

The Morobe Mission played a vital role in this initiative by providing a 170-meter service line and a 1.5kVA inverter, enabling the connection of the hydro power to both the church and the District Director’s house. This partnership has brought light and power to the Kabwum Mission Station, fostering an environment where worship and community activities can thrive.
