The Morobe Mission of the Seventh Day Adventist Church concluded the second day of its Life Skills Training program at Ragiampun Adventist High School, focusing on the practical art of mushroom cultivation. Participants and facilitators alike engaged fervently in learning and applying techniques for nurturing and harvesting mushrooms, aiming to empower local communities with sustainable agricultural practices.

The day began with a spirited atmosphere as eager participants gathered at the Ragiampun Adventist High School Farm, where they were welcomed by seasoned facilitators from the Morobe Mission. The session commenced with an informative briefing on the benefits of mushroom cultivation, emphasizing its nutritional value and economic potential for rural households.

"Our goal is to equip community members with practical skills that not only enhance their livelihoods but also promote sustainable agricultural practices and most importantly equip people to become good stewards for God," expressed Elder Tonny Simon, one of the lead facilitators from the Eastern Highlands Simbu Mission.

Participants then delved into the hands-on segment of the training, where they learned the intricate process of preparing mushroom beds, seeding them with spawn, and ensuring optimal conditions for growth. This practical approach was met with enthusiasm and curiosity, as attendees actively participated in every step of the cultivation process.

"We are excited to learn these skills because mushrooms are not only nutritious but also a potential source of income for us," shared by participants.

Throughout the day, discussions also revolved around the environmental benefits of mushroom cultivation, such as its role in recycling agricultural waste and enhancing soil health. Participants were encouraged to adopt these eco-friendly practices within their own farming endeavours’.

As the training concluded, Mr. Smith Kintau, master of ceremony, underscored the importance of sustainability and community collaboration in agricultural development. "Today's session exemplifies the Seventh Day Adventist Church's commitment to empowering communities through practical education that promotes self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship," he remarked.

The Life Skills Training Day 2 at Ragiampun Adventist High School Farm not only equipped participants with valuable agricultural knowledge but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and empowerment among attendees. Looking ahead, the Morobe Mission remains dedicated to continuing such initiatives that contribute to the holistic development of communities across the region.
